Minister of Sports: I don’t aspire to be the president of Zamalek. We have the capabilities to host the Olympics and the World Cup.

Ensure Ashraf SobhiThe Minister of Youth and Sports, that the sudden deaths observed by the Egyptian stages during the recent period comply with the world’s proportions of similar medical conditions, stressing that any failure in medical procedures will be immediately referred to the prosecution.

The Minister said in radio declarations via Atheer on Sport FM that certain deaths occur as a result of health problems that have not enabled an exercise from the start, or due to a sudden effort that goes beyond the organization’s capacity to bear, noting that rates in Egypt did not exceed world rates.

He added: “After the case of Ahmed Refaat, we received an applied presidential assignment, and any transgression or negligence in this file will not be authorized, because the case has become a crime punishable by law.”

Speaking on the stadium crisis, Sobhi stressed that the ministry is not responsible for the preparation and maintenance of stadiums, but rather this responsibility is the responsibility of the clubs and the bodies that hold it, noting that the Cairo stadium is the only stadium which is under the supervision of the State.

He added: “It is necessary to activate the role of the association of the club and to set strict requirements for the development of stadiums from the next season, and a committee must be trained to follow this vital file. Stadium maintenance needs clear foundations for development, and the association must resume this role to ensure the quality of sports facilities.”

Regarding the organization of international championships, the Minister stressed that Egypt has all the ingredients necessary to organize major sporting events, in particular with the presence of advanced infrastructure and the Olympic Sports City.

Sobhi revealed that Egypt aims to reach Olympic medals in several sports, notably Squash, Modern Five, Halterophilia and Taekwondo, stressing that there are distinguished sports executives capable of achieving achievements in the next Olympic Games.

He also praised initiatives to discover football talents, indicating that he obtained positive results during the recent period and helps support the future of Egyptian football.

Asked about the jury, Subhi refused to comment, since he is not his role as Minister of Sport to interfere in this regard.
